Modular Wall System

Flexible workplace solutions for agile work environments

Development of a modular system for user-driven spatial design

Designing spaces for real-world use

Office, coworking or makerspace

A changing world of work brings new demands for spatial infrastructure. Traditional office layouts are increasingly being replaced by open, flexible space concepts.

In contemporary work environments, the modular workplace systems creates a warm and inviting atmosphere through its materiality while remaining highly functional.

At the same time, it serves as a flexible base for events, workshops and meetings — keeping tools and materials organised, visible and easy to access.

In shared workshops and co-working spaces, requirements can vary greatly. The modular wall system allows tools, equipment and consumables to be placed quickly and intuitively exactly where they are needed.

The modular design also enables customised solutions for specific machines, components or workflows.

Design driven by real user needs

Which modular elements are needed?

The system’s flexibility comes from its interchangeable components. We analysed different usage scenarios to understand how the modular wall system wall is used in everyday practice: Which tools need a dedicated place? Which workflows can be simplified? How can materials and equipment be organised clearly and efficiently?

Based on this analysis, a range of shelves, hooks, holders for cups, paper and tape dispensers were developed — all easily inserted into the modular wall system wall. The system can be expanded in the future with project-specific components.

Material choice played a key role in the design process, balancing durability and sustainability with aesthetic considerations. Questions such as colour, contrast and visual integration into the wall were carefully explored.

The shapes, angles and proportions of the elements were also aligned with the visual language of the modular wall system itself.

Bringing all of these factors together, the goal was to create a system that is not only visually cohesive but, above all, practical and intuitive to use.
